Does Odie cover Pre-existing Conditions?
Like other pet insurance companies, we do not cover pre-existing conditions.
What is a pre-existing condition?
A pre-existing condition includes any condition for which a Vet provided medical advice, your pet received treatment for, or displayed signs or symptoms of prior to the policy effective date or during any waiting period.
How do you determine a pre-existing condition?
Odie looks at the 18 months preceding the policy effective date and will exclude any conditions that were present during that period. Conditions that are Present during the policy waiting periods are also deemed to be pre-existing conditions.
*Please note, the following Conditions are deemed Pre-Existing Conditions if they are Present at any time preceding the Policy Effective Date or the expiration of any Waiting Period:
- Chronic Conditions.
- Bilateral Conditions, if your pet had at any time any pre-existing conditions consistent with that same bilateral condition on either side of the body.
- Intervertebral disc Conditions, if your pet had at any time any pre-existing conditions involving the intervertebral discs (due to either degeneration or trauma).
Are there any pre-existing conditions that exclude my pet from being covered?
If your pet has been diagnosed, treated, or displayed signs/symptoms of the below pre-existing illnesses, they will not be eligible for an Illness & Injury policy. The good news is they are eligible for our Accident-Only plan.
- Canine: Addison’s Disease, Cushing’s Disease, Diabetes and/or Cancer.
- Feline: Diabetes, Feline Leukemia Virus (FELV), Feline Immunodeficiency (FIV), and/or Cancer.
